Our 2nd and 3rd Grade Earth Club has had an incredible year caring for our environment and helping others! Earth Club, led by Ms. Torto and Mrs. Majer, has been busy working on projects that make a real difference both in our school and in our community.
One of their biggest accomplishments this year was collecting 1000 pounds of plastic. Because of their hard work, the plastic was recycled and turned into a beautiful new bench that will be prominently placed outside our front entrance for everyone in our school community to enjoy. What an amazing way to turn recycling into something useful!
But that鈥檚 not all Earth Club has been doing this year!
Bread Tag Collection
Students have been collecting plastic bread tags which are recycled for money. The funds raised help pay for wheelchairs for children in need. It鈥檚 a small item that can make a huge difference!
Broken or Unwanted Holiday Lights Collection
Earth Club gathered broken or unwanted holiday lights and delivered them to SCARCE, where the copper inside the lights can be reused instead of ending up in landfills.
School-Wide Pick Up 5 Challenge
Earth Club encouraged the whole school to take part in the Pick Up 5 Challenge鈥攑icking up at least five pieces of trash in our community. We are proud to say that about 75% of our school participated!
Prairie Path Clean Up
Each spring, Earth Club heads out to the Prairie Path to help keep our local environment clean. On average, students collect eight bags of trash during this event!
We are incredibly proud of the dedication and leadership shown by our Earth Club students. Through their efforts, they are proving that even small actions can create big change. Thank you to Ms. Torto, Mrs. Majer, and our amazing Earth Club members for helping make our school and community a greener place!
