Text Message Option for Emergency Communications

As part of a continued effort to further enhance District communications, District 45 now offers parents and guardians text message notifications for emergency announcements, including school closures due to weather.

To comply with wireless carrier requirements and protect against unsolicited text messages, you may soon receive a text message on the wireless cell phone number that the District has on your file. The message will request that you “opt-in” to receive important information from the district via our SMS text messaging service.

The message you receive will come from our ‘short code’, 67587, and read similar to the following:

“District 45 messages. Reply Y to subscribe or STOP to cancel. Msg&data rates may apply. Msg freq varies. Visit schoolmessenger.com/txt for info”

So that you may continue to receive these important text messages, we encourage you to reply with “Y” or “Yes” when you receive such a verification message. If you do not reply, you will not receive any further text messages from the District.

To opt-out of all text messages from SchoolMessenger, reply with “STOP” to the opt-in message that you receive. If you opt-in but later decide to opt-out, simply send “STOP” to 67587. You may also reply “STOP” to any message from our organization.

At any time, you may opt-in to receive notifications by sending a text message to 67587 with “Y” or “Yes” to subscribe. If you’re not sure if you’ve previously opted in, you can send a text message to 67587 with “Y” or “Yes” to be sure you’re subscribed without causing any issues.

SchoolMessenger, our District communications system, does not charge recipients for text messages sent to or from your mobile device; however, you may incur a charge from your wireless carrier.

Important: you cannot opt-in a phone number that we do not already have in the system. Parents must inform the school office of a new number in advance.

To update your mobile contact information in our system, please contact your school’s main office. Note: Whenever a new cell phone is added, at any point in the year, SchoolMessenger will send a new text message alert invitation to the new number to opt-in.

Finally, please check with your wireless carrier for information about your mobile service plan and any possible charges related to text messaging. District 45 does not reimburse for any charges associated with sending or receiving text messages.
